ISSA – NoVA Chapter Infosec Meetup Event – Thursday, 09-17: Accreditation of a PL4 System

The upcoming ISSA – NoVA Chapter meetup on September 17th will address the security necessary for allowing the accreditation of a PL4 system without the use of a firewall or a guard.

According to the meetup abstract, you can expect to learn about the following if you attend:

There are several components (Solaris 10 with Trusted Extensions, Oracle DBMS 10g with Database Vault, Label Security, and the Cross Domain Security Express) that provide the security necessary to allow for accreditation of a PL4 system without the use of a firewall or a guard. This talk will focus on the technical interaction of these components. This is “first of it’s kind” technology and is in the process of accreditation now. Basically, Oracle (including all the sub components) is installed in a RAC configuration on top of a unique installation of Solaris 10 TX. The MAC and DAC controls provided by these components make everything work.

ISSA – DC Chapter Infosec Meetup Event Tomorrow, 09-15: Software Development and CSSLP

The ISSA – DC Chapter infosec meetup this month is a must-attend for software developers. Titled “Software Development: The Next Security Frontier An Introduction to the CSSLP Certification” and presented by certification consultant Glenn Johnson of ISC2, this meetup will take a hard look at the following questions:

Why do we need secure software?
What does it take to build secure software?

After answering those questions, they will cover the following topics:

Developing a professional standard in software development.
Elements of effective software security programs.
Why security programs are valuable both for commercial software and in-house development
The Certified Software Security Lifecycle Practitioner Certification

OWASP – VA Local Chapter Infosec Meetup Event – Thursday, 09-17: “Fortify 360″ (Updated)

The upcoming OWASP – VA Local Chapter infosec meetup event on Thursday, September 17th, looks like it will be interesting since it’s your chance to get a hands-on look at Fortify 360.

Here’s a brief description according to the OWASP – VA wiki:

We will be hosting a presentation, demo and hands on session of Fortify 360 (http://www.fortify.com). Fortify 360 includes Fortify SCA (Source Code Analyzer) and the Fortify 360 Server which is Fortify’s solution for an enterprise deployment of SCA. The session will start with a presentation by Fortify engineers, followed by a demo and finally a hands on session where the audience will be free to install Fortify SCA on the machine and try it the SCA tool on a sample application that we will provide. The audience will also be introduced with the Fortify 360 Server and try some of the enterprise level features such as collaborative code review, metrics and so on. Bring your laptop if you want to try Fortify 360!

While this meetup is for anyone who’s interested, the following people will be especially interested:

The target audience is anyone interested in Secure Code Review with a Static Analysis tool at the desktop level and/or enterprise level.

As always, there’s free food.

Pizza and refreshments will be served.
