It’s that time of the week again: The time where we take a look at what local security bloggers have been up to. Last week, we went on a vacation without telling anyone and we are sorry about that. We promise to do a better job at communication from now on. Anyways if you can’t get enough of the local security scene, check out our NovaInfosec Twits list for even more great security blogs and people to follow on Twitter. Also be sure to follow myself (@nathiet), @grecs, and @novainfosec on Twitter if you want to know more about what’s going on in the local security community during the week.

And without further ado … here are the top picks for this week.

#3 – ShmooCon 2010 Badge Contest: Darth Null solves the ShmooCon 2010 badge contest. He gives details on how he did it so if you’d like to try to solve this yourself, then his post is not for you as it is full of spoilers. But if you’d like to see how he did it then click here.

#2 – DEFCON 18 Crypto Challenge: Darth Null again solves this years DefCon Crypto challenge. He gives details on how did it so if you’d like to try to solve this yourself, then his post is not for you as it is full of spoilers. But if you’d like to see how he did it then click here.

#1 – How to Quantify Risk: With much criticism of risk assessment and analysis over the past few years, Benjamin Tomhave looks at how to quantify risk. He looks at a methodology used at Gemini Security for performing quantified risks called Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR). “FAIR defines risk as the probable frequency and probable magnitude of future loss.” If you’d like to learn more about FAIR, click here as Benjamin Tomhave gives more details about the methodology.

Well, that’s all this week. Be sure to check back next week for more great blog posts from local security bloggers.
