It’s that time of the week again: The time where we take a look at what local security bloggers have been up to. This week [overall intro statement that ties all the posts together.
If you can’t get enough of the local security scene, be sure to check out our NovaInfosec Twits list for even more great security blogs and people to follow on Twitter. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @grecs if you want to know more about what’s going on in the local security community during the week.
#3 -Â Getting your Noob fill of Security: A resource blog post for information security noobs. Rob Fuller continues his “getting your fill of” series with this great post on ways to learn the basics of infosec on your own. Most of the resources he lists are videos, which is great for those of us that are too lazy to read (I include myself in this group) and best of all, the suggestions are all FREE!!
#2 – The curious case of asset Valuation: Now here is our first post on challenging the norms. Alex Hutton answers a question from Jeremiah Grossman on a simple way to perform asset evaluation. Well, the simple answer is that there is no simple answer. Alex writes a very thorough post describing this concept from an accounting perspective and then finally relating valuation to infosec. In the end he recommends focusing on impact rather than valuation. Read about asset valuation here
#1 – Partnerships and Procurement Are Not the Answer: And finally in this post Richard Bejtlich really challenges the conventional schools of thought that security can be improved through partnerships and procurement – specifically emphasizing the government in this case. Anyway, he dismisses these two methods with plenty of interesting commentary and goes on to recommend proper leadership instead.
Well, that’s all this week. Be sure to check back next week for more great blog posts from local security bloggers.
