I was finally able to attend one of these NoVA Sec meetup events. Got to meet some great people and enjoyed an eye-opening presentation on ZFS from Wes Shield. It was the first I had heard about ZFS so it provided a nice foundation. I’m not too much of a hardware person but my key takeaway was that ZFS allows you to throw a bunch of disks together, add them to ZFS to be managed, and then set them up into a bunch of different configurations. Wes demonstrated several setups including JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks), mirroring, and a few types of RAID. ZFS also offers easy backup and restore capability through snapshots. Thanks infoLock Technologies for offering up your facilities. See our original post for more information.
